Our Ellen Island Camp experience was excellent. Jeff and Jane were amazing as were the boys who manned the dock and cleaned our fish. We have absolutely no... read more complaints as the accommodations , location and fishing were all great. We would highly recommend EIC to anyone wanting a true near north experience. As a group of guys who have an annual fishing trip this one ranks near the top. This place rates a return trip for certain. Thanks so much for putting up with a bunch of veterans.

An annual fishing trip with friend's and family has turned in to a whole lot more. Years of fishing together in Northern Ontario we finally decided on a trip a... read more little closer to home. Ellen Island Camp fit the bill perfectly. A comfortable drive from the GTA but remote enough to ensure privacy and fantastic fishing. The Hosts and Staff are quite likely the nicest people on the planet ensuring your stay is all you hoped it would be. New boats and motors, an endless supply of live bait, fish cleaning and a daily supply of ice to keep your beverages cold. We decided to have a fish fry one day and they supplied the deep fryer and propane (we took our own oil) and there is nothing quite like fresh cut French-fries and fresh walleye (maybe throw in a can of beans as well). A guided tour after arrival guaranteed our success by pointing out some popular hot spots. Cabins are new and comfortable with most providing an outstanding view of Lady Evelyn Lake. Ellen Island Camp has well outfitted kitchens in each cabin for meal preparation and is an ideal alternative to the American Plan style camps where the menu is set and times are strict. We fished and ate on our own schedule which suited us fine. New BBQs on each cabin deck allows options in your menu. We now always book early for the next year so we don't lose out on the opportunity of a lifetime.

Where do I begin Over the years have had many opportunities to take advantage of Ontario's amazing walleye/pickerel fishing, but to enjoy the experience in the very best... read more accommodations I have ever had made this week an extra special occasion. Greeted at Mowatts Landing at the exact time scheduled, our adventure began. Greeted by the owner and his charismatic and staff who managed to stow our gear without us having to lift a finger. A short boat ride to the portage, up and over to the majestic Lady Evelyn Lake. Then a short ride to the impressive Ellen Island Camp. We were assisted to our accommodations and the staff ensured all our gear was delivered without incident. They even brought us complimentary bags of ice so our after fishing beverages would be frosty cold. Jeff and Jane provided an indoctrination tour and answered all of our questions, the complimentary ball cap was a bonus as I had forgotten mine at home. Jeff advised us that he would provide a personal tour of the lake to point out some of the more productive holes for the Lady Evelyn newbies, which we were. Equipment was perfect, great boat and seats, new motors, and fantastic live bait. We took our own trolling motor to ensure we could get to the optimal speed but found on many occasions the provided motor was capable.
Fishing was great, we adhere to a catch and release strategy but I must admit I brought my limit home. with regards to accommodations and amenities Charley's Den is a jewel, complimentary high speed internet in a tasteful rustic environment, impressive wildlife mounts, dartboard, pool table and sattelite TV, what more could you ask for.
I did have one small beef my stay was too short.

My Dad and I visited Ellen Island Camp for a partial week stay. Our Cabin was clean, and well equipped. I especially appreciated the well seasoned cast iron. Our... read more boat ran well, and the seats with backs were a life saver for two bad backs.
The solitude of this lake takes your breath away. Once you get out in your boat, it is only you and the fish. No matter where we were we had picturesque views. I could never imagine the view we had from our cabin. Our cabin faced West, and we had amazing sunsets every evening.
That brings me to the fishing. I would not describe it as hot, but it was very good. I brought in a few huge walleye.
Lastly, Ellen Island would not be what it is without its staff and owners. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Boy do they work hard and it shows. One of my favorite things was their fish cleaning service. I can't express how great it is to have your fish expertly cleaned and ready for dinner.
